Government Borrowing and Public Debt Sustainability
Public debt management and fiscal/debt sustainability has been introduced as a topic for the G20 to consider in 2013. International guidelines on debt management already exist. The IMF-World Bank Guidelines for Public Debt Management were formulated in 2001 (the ‘Guidelines’), and supplemented by the Guidelines for Public Debt Management: Accompanying Document and Selected Case Studies in 2003. Further, the IMF-World Bank-OECD ‘Stockholm Principles’ were agreed in 2010. The work on this subject under G20 is evolving now.
